learning to walk again

something people do without thinking about or even appreciating,

for a stroke survivor when you walk, every movement your leg makes is like your brain having to sit a test, it takes a lot of energy and effort. My splint holds my ankle in place to stop my drop foot, its massive and bulky, not easy to hide under jeans.

I remember in hospital, my physio said I probably wouldn't be able to walk further than 15ft, so any further than that I walk, is such a big achievement. I remember being able to walk for the first time again, me and mum hugged and cried, as we never thought i'd be able too.

I haven't really appreciated walking as much as I should and sometimes I do go in the wheelchair, mainly in town (as its so busy and I get embarrassed about my arm) Some people have accidently nudged into it thinking it can move, All I say is 'ouch' to try to get my brain processing it again (hasn't worked so far).

I don;t get as tired as I used to and I can walk without my stick I just wobble a bit and still need to build up my confidence.

A walk that used to take me 15minutes now takes me about 40minutes (i'm always late now)

thought for the day:
appreciate being able to just get up and go
